Kerala Braces for Intense Heatwave

Kerala is set to experience a significant heatwave with maximum temperatures expected to soar across several districts until April 24, according to a bulletin released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Residents are advised to take extreme precautions as the mercury is predicted to reach perilous levels.

Scorching Temperatures Expected

Isolated pockets in Palakkad district are likely to witness maximum temperatures around a sweltering 41°C. Kollam and Thrissur districts are not far behind, with temperatures expected to hover around 40°C. The IMD bulletin further indicated that districts like Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode could experience temperatures up to 38°C.

Even the coastal districts are not spared from the impending heat. Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod are predicted to record maximum temperatures of approximately 37°C. Thiruvananthapuram district, the state capital, is also bracing for the heat, with temperatures expected to reach around 36°C.

Health Advisory Issued

Given the severity of the heatwave, health authorities are urging citizens to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and limit strenuous activities during the peak heat hours. Elderly individuals, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable and should take extra care. The IMD's forecast highlights the critical need for preparedness and community awareness to mitigate the health risks associated with extreme heat. This spell of high temperatures is a stark reminder of the changing climate patterns and the importance of adapting to such environmental challenges.
