India Rescues Pilgrims in Nepal Flood

In the wake of devastating floods in Nepal, India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, confirmed a successful rescue operation for 21 Indian pilgrims stranded amidst the deluge. The Nepal Army facilitated the safe evacuation of the pilgrims to Kathmandu, after which the Indian Embassy made arrangements for their return to India.

Ongoing Rescue and Aid Efforts

Dr. Jaishankar stated that while 85 Indians have been accounted for and rescued so far, communication remains lost with over 315 Indian nationals. India has pledged unwavering support to Nepal during this crisis, dispatching two aircraft laden with relief materials, with a third plane set to depart imminently. Recognizing the severity of the situation, India has proactively offered crucial assistance, including the deployment of Bailey bridges, a tunneling expert team, and medical teams. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also on standby, ready to be deployed if the need arises.

Collaborative Response and Diplomatic Engagement

The Minister emphasized that the ongoing rescue operations in Nepal are being spearheaded by local authorities and the Nepal Army, with India providing all possible assistance to their efforts. Dr. Jaishankar also held discussions with his Nepalese counterpart, the Foreign Minister of Nepal, assuring him of India's steadfast cooperation in relief and rehabilitation endeavors. The coordinated response underscores the strong bilateral ties and India's commitment to regional stability and humanitarian aid in times of disaster.
