DCU Reboot's Messy Goodbye to Gal Gadot

The DC Universe's much-hyped reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran has been anything but smooth, particularly for some of its biggest stars. While the decision to replace Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman was largely understood as a necessary evil for a "clean break," the handling of other beloved characters has left many scratching their heads – none more so than Gal Gadot, the iconic Wonder Woman.

Gadot recently opened up on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, revealing a shocking lack of communication from DC Studios regarding her departure. Astonishingly, nobody at the studio ever formally informed her that she was being dropped from the role. This revelation paints a stark picture of the turbulent transition taking place behind the scenes.

According to Gadot, just prior to the seismic changes, she had been assured by Gunn and Safran themselves that a third "Wonder Woman" installment was in development with her. "They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third one,'" she recounted. However, this promising assurance quickly crumbled as she witnessed the unceremonious exits of her colleagues.

Gadot expressed her alarm at how the entire previous DC continuity was dismantled, observing the less-than-elegant handling of the situations involving both Henry Cavill and director Patty Jenkins. "But I saw the way everybody else was handled, right? And I, you know – the Henry [Cavill] situation was unfortunate. I was in the middle of that. The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty – it was not handled elegantly," she stated. This suggests a broader pattern of poor communication and abrupt decision-making throughout the reboot process.

The DCU reboot aimed for a fresh start, but the alleged lack of professional courtesy shown to its departing stars, particularly one as central as Wonder Woman, raises questions about the studio's approach. While a clean slate might be necessary for the franchise's future, the manner in which these transitions are managed undoubtedly leaves a lasting impression on both talent and fans. Gadot’s experience highlights the painful human cost behind the strategic corporate decisions to reshape a cinematic universe.
